So… We want everything from Brooklyn-based jewelry label Lady Grey.Â
Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader of Lady Grey Jewelry deliver a beautiful and curious assortment of pieces in their latest collection (“Sacred Geometryâ€), inspired by geographic and celestial naturally occurring geometric forms. The pair, who used to work in the fields of prosthetic dentistry and orthodontics, remained true to their fascination with metal and attention to detail and created conceptual, statement pieces that are nevertheless appropriate for every-day wear. Taking inspiration from Mexico’s Naica Cave of Crystals and the platonic solid models of astronomer Johannes Kepler, Lady Grey immortalizes crystal formations, platonic solids and organized natural patterns in the forms of covetable rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings. The designers work out of their studio in Brooklyn to hand-make each and every piece, adding that special touch to the handiwork that won them Gen Art’s 2009 Design Vision Award in Accessories. — Rachel Eleanor Sutton
Indie band the Mynabirds making waves (sound waves, maybe?) with their sophomore album Generals.
If you haven’t heard about them, you should get to know The Mynabirds. They are a group of musicians fronted by singer/songwriter Laura Burhenn. Burhenn, originally apart of the indie-rock band Georgie James, began writing for The Mynabirds three years ago. Their debut album, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, was written in the mountains of Oregon by Burhenn alongside producer Richard Swift — and, it was widely acknowledged by critics. It showcased a unique sound… A marriage of classical, indie, and garage inspirations. In the 2010 breakthrough album, she sings: “It’s hard to know when you’re in it / If its head or it’s tails / If we won or if we failed / Oh, we’ll wait and see.†She communicates an admirable vulnerability that sounds natural, and sings with soul and sincerity. The Mynabirds’ sophomore album, Generals, was recently released on June 5 and is another collaboration with Swift. This release is not a coin toss, and we’re sure it will continue to be a successful album filled with character and conviction as time rolls on.  — Emily Marucci
Office supplies gets scandalous… Maybe? Â
Newly released, this “Prosepra†pen (available via Amazon) was created to de-stress us insane desktop workers and offer up a less peril-filled day. The “massage†pen — designed with a battery-operated function in its rubber-capped end — was created to ease our coffee-filled headaches, our fatigue, motion sickness and more, while also helping to improve focus while we slave away writing stuff down all day. Yes… Since clearly, in these modern times, we are all constantly writing not typing and clicking. (Besides Post-It notes, of course.) I’m not a pen genius or even a pen connoisseur for that matter, but I don’t think writing with this massage-esque pen is going to relieve my headache — that’s what a shot of Jameson is for. However, clearly the manufacturers think otherwise. The pen comes complete with an acupuncture chart so that we can easily bring ourselves closer to a state of relaxation. Even so, I’m pretty sure this pen isn’t powerful enough to take away any perturbed feelings I may be having, and more than likely it’s just going to make me want a cigarette.
WARDROBE: Metric releases new album (finally) in one week… Naturally, our major Emily Haines style crush is coming back “alive.”
In one week, Metric will release Synthetica via MMI/MOM+POP, followed by a few private fan shows and then a full-blown U.S. tour. Instead of leaking the album naturally (and by naturally, I mean by accident) Metric held an interactive scavenger hunt or “hide+seek†last week where fans joined forces to “unlock†an early stream. So today the entire album is streaming on soundcloud, and in celebration, we’ve chosen Emily Haines for our wardrobe pick because she’s probably one of the coolest frontwoman alive — and her fashion sense simultaneously fills our blood with admiration and jealously.

Jason Glasser comes to Williamsburg via Texas.
Jason Glasser declares to have become an artist because, as he says, “I had this Warhol portrait of Marilyn Monroe on my door as a kid growing up in rural Connecticut. I knew that Andy Warhol was a famous visual artist and that he was the lead singer for the Velvet Underground and was in The Rolling Stones. That’s why I decided to be an artist/musician.â€
Side note: Warhol actually designed The Stones ninth album cover Sticky Fingers (I’ve posted a picture of the note Mick wrote to Warhol for the process, just for fun. I know, it totally doesn’t go with this post).

WHO: Florrie
WHAT: “Begging Me”
WHY: There’s always a spot on our playlist for Florrie.
Florence Arnold, known under the moniker Florrie, is an English singer/songwriter, drummer and model. And she wears cool pants.
What to wear this weekend if you’re stuck in the city for Memorial Day.
With Memorial Day on the (hopefully rain-free) horizon, many BBQs are popping up around the city this weekend. More than likely, you will attend a few festive parties that all include trendy, summer-esque music, small backyards or high-level rooftops and, of course, lots of day drinking and grilled foods. We’ve put together a couple M-Day celebration looks that are stylish and comfortable, even with a hamburger filled belly. Plus, these ensembles will keep your attractiveness at high levels even if you decide to graze in the sun, climb stairs, crawl through windows, stand in uncut grass, dance on a balcony… Whatever you end up doing — have fun everyone

We just want to wear all these pieces at once. Naked.Â
There are heaps of up-and-coming jewelry designers attempting to create “edgy†jewelry, which they then present in their lookbooks on models with slicked back hair and geometrically styled clothes… Then all of a sudden the lookbooks hit the Post Office and we start seeing these designs in Nylon, then Vogue then all the way to the (less cool) masses with appearances in the likes of People Style Watch. This can be a rather trying process to continuously watch — since it happens quite frequently, and then we rarely hear about these designers again.
Instead of being shot (not even in the knee or anything), Tyga was held at gunpoint and forced to dance to his own song. Our resident comedy writer, Michael Aviles, fills us in on what all this nonsenses gangster slacking is all about.Â
OK. So, lots of things have changed these days in the Hip Hop / Rap scene. Even with Lil’ Wayne dressing like an 8th grader who carries around his skateboard (because that’s what the cool kids are doing) or Kanye who continues to borrow his sista’s pants, there’s always been one thing we could count on from our gangster ass rappers, and that is… When someones got beef, the shits gonna’ pop off and somebody is getting fucked up! (Apologies for my pathetic attempt at sounding “hard.â€)

WHO: Flight Facilities
WHAT: “Crave You” Featuring Gisele (Radio Edit)
WHY: Want What You Can’t Have: The Music Edition… Because apartment shopping in New York is tough, man.
Not their most recent track, but these lyrics can translate to multiple “this crazy thing we call life” moments… making it’s a hard song to quit playing on your Spotify. In case you missed the dynamic duo with the occasional accompanying vocal provided by the lady croonstress Jess, on their most recent North American tour, have no fear. Jimmy, Hugo and his hair are going to try to make a pit stop in NYC around a certain October 31st Holiday. — La T
Spring/Summer 2012 runway looks we’d buy in a second if we had some cash money.
So, being an editor that’s still working their way up to a wholesome paycheck (which in this publishing era may never come, but whatevs), you spend large chunks of your day with designer looks shoved in your face. It’s inspiring and beautiful and blablabla…
If writing about fashion meant getting to wear what you write about (it totally should BTW), then I would write about these six looks and then they would immediately be on my body — albiet, not as flattering as on these featured bodies — but on my body nonetheless. And it would be awesome.
The looks:
Chanel
Charlotte Ronson
Christian Siriano
Frankie Morello
Mulberry
Paul Smith
We’ve broken down the reasons why everyday life in NYC should not include these bandage beauties.
There are reasons why Mr. Hervé L. Leroux (a.k.a. Hervé Léger, noted for creating these tight, form fitting dresses) deemed them “body-cons.†Firstly, because they are clearly body-conscious in design, but also because one must be conscious of these dresses when wearing them. Maybe in other cities—such as Miami and L.A. where people just hop in a car, go to a fancy dancy nightclub and sit V.I.P. all night—this dress could seriously work. Here in New York City, it might just be the worst possible choice for going out on the town.
The unfortunate way this situation sometimes (or, most of the time) goes down.Â
Girls:
You know that feeling… The one when you’re out with friends and there’s a stud making his perfect hair, cool shoes and good smile rounds throughout the crowd. You become a little attentive, start taking tabs on his whereabouts and wonder if there’s some way you could meet him. Then you see one of your friends and Mr. Stud chatting it up. You realize you’ve got a mutual acquaintance and think, Perfect. Now it won’t be totally unacceptable if we hook up because, hey, we totes know the same person.

Excited to wear colors again? We are.
As people who wear mostly (well… almost only) gray and black palettes throughout fall and winter, we get a little psyched when spring items start popping up everywhere and remind us that bold, bright colors do exist. So, since springtime goes perfect with prismatic fashion, fun and flirting, we put together this Twister game—which combines all three—for inspiration. Enjoy.

WHO: Nikki Lane
WHAT: “Lies”
WHY: If you have a gut feeling you are being lied to, this song will convince you it’s not just a feeling. Plus, we love the new video (click “read more” to watch).
Nikki Lane just released this video for “Lies,” directed by Jared Eberhard, off her continuously climbing debut album Walk of Shame. We love Nikki for her trendy-country sound, raspy/soothing voice and her traveling boutique (seriously, go watch her play and you will discover some amazing vintage finds).
